The ALTO Alliance Legal Assistant is responsible for supporting the entire Legal Team for administrative responsibilities, research, and development of legal solutions for ALTO’s clients’ crime and public safety challenges. The ALTO Alliance Legal Assistant is also responsible for supporting Staff Attorney(s) in managing clients’ criminal investigations and cases in their local metro areas.

This position requires incumbents to exercise well-developed legal skills and knowledge, and act independently under general oversight and direction of the Alliance Managing, Lead, and Staff Attorney(s).

Overview of Roles & Responsibilities

  • Supports both Managing Attorney, Lead Attorney, and Staff Attorney(s) administratively in case research, critical event reporting, and client service needs, both written and verbal, to forward the objectives of ALTO Alliance.
  • Communicates throughout the process, regarding criminal case preparation, filing and case dispositions, to provide support needed for Legal Teams for effectively and successfully managing their caseloads and serving client(s).
  • Other duties to support the ALTO Alliance offering, as assigned.

Minimum Position Requirements

  • Experience in one more of the following: Paralegal/Legal Assistant for 1+ year, Paralegal/Legal Assistant Certification, and/or Bachelor’s degree with a criminal/legal focus.
  • Experience with documentation management such as case management software/systems, maintaining contact lists, and data entry/input and alike, is preferred.
  • Brings great attention to detail with strong organizational and time management skills, as they support Attorney(s) and help clients with legal issues.
  • Prepares legal documents such as victims’ rights letter, responses, and witness summons.
  • Readies materials for trial proceedings including documents, evidence collection, organizing, archiving, and verifying factual information.
  • Researches and compiles information that helps strengthen case(s) for the assigned Staff Attorney(s).
  • Ongoingly tasks, projects, and processes to meet contractual obligations and measures for Legal and Operations Teams.
  • Other legal and broader business responsibilities as assigned.

The ideal candidate with demonstrate:

  • Transparent and consistent communication with assigned staff to ensure all information is timely and effective.
  • Strong computer skills to include, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with law, legal procedures and protocols, and court system.
